China secure double chance in the playoff with 10-0 win over South Africa

China scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back today, in their first game of a double header. The Asian squad secured a double chance in tomorrow’s playoffs with a 10-0 win over South Africa, in the last day of the Opening Round. 

Leadoff hitter Yue Xie set the tone of the game with her first at bat, hitting a triple to right field, and the scoring the first run of the game thanks to an error in the same play. Good hitting and aggressive base running allowed China to score four in the first frame and secure the game.

China added one in the third and fourth, and then in the fifth they scored four more runs on five hits to close the game in the fifth inning.

Jiaqi Li and Bei Wang went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while three pitchers combined for the shutout: Yinan Chai, Yuchen Wei and Yue Sun.

China remain undefeated in the tournament and will face Cuba later today to close the Opening Round. South Africa collected their fifth loss of the tournament, and tomorrow will play for the fifth place in Group B.
