The Netherlands defeated Great Britain, 7-0, in the final game of the European Championship played in Catalonia, Spain.

World No. 10 Netherlands became the new Women’s Softball European Champions after a 7-0 victory over No. 12 Great Britain in the final game of the continental competition on Saturday. The orange squad earned a ticket to the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2024 Group Stage, along with the British and world No. 7 Italy.

Netherlands pitcher Eva Voortman was named MVP of the continental tournament, after pitching a gem in the final. The leftie tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout against the British squad.

In the Bronze Medal Game, Italy defeated Czechia, 4-2, and earned the final available spot for the World Cup.

Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy became the first qualified nations for the next Women’s Softball World Cup, which will be played entirely on European soil, in a new two-stage format.

In 2023, 18 teams will be placed in three groups, to be played in Italy, Spain and Ireland. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, to be staged in Italy in 2024.

A total of 21 teams competed in the Women's Softball European Championship staged in Barcelona, Gavà, Sant Boi de Llobregat and Viladecans.
