Canada score early and don't look back against Venezuela

World No. 5 Canada scored three runs in the bottom of the first. It was all they needed to beat No. 22 Venezuela, 6-2.

Canada got to Venezuela's starter Loreley Francia with consecutive hits by Erika Polidori and Larissa Franklin to take a 3-0 lead in their first at-bat.

Emma Entzminger hit an inside the park home run to make it 4-0 in the second.

Canada extended the lead to 6-0 when Nicole Rivait made the most of a defensive error with an RBI double and scored on a groundout.

Canada's starter Morgan Rackel allowed only one run over four innings of work.

Venezuela got on the scoreboard against reliever Samantha Ryan in the fifth.

Canada will return to the field at 8pm to face Italy in a key game. Venezuela will open Day 3 on 24 July against the Philippines.
