Japan's Miu Shiraishi earns WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup MVP honours

Shiraishi excelled as the tournament’s leading hitter with a .600 average and eight RBIs, anchoring Japan’s WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup title victory. “I just did my best,” she said. The outfielder is one of four Madonna Japan players named to the All-World Team.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) honoured Japan's Miu Shiraishi as the MVP of the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup Finals 2024 presented by CARNEXT.

Shiraishi entered the World Championship Final with an impressive batting average of over .600 and eight RBIs. She started all six games without committing a single error.

"I just did my best," said Shiraishi through an interpreter. "I'm so happy I could play with my idols and win another World Cup. I did whatever I could to help the team."

During the closing ceremony, the WBSC announced the tournament's All-World Team, featuring players from the four teams competing in the Medal Round. Japan led with four selections, followed by Canada and the United States with three each, and Mexico with one.

The WBSC also presented the individual awards. Shiraishi earned the honours for leading hitter with a .615 batting average. Jamie Baum of the United States was recognised as the pitcher with the best earned run average (ERA) of 2.74 in 7.2 innings, while her teammate Kelsie Whitmore had the best record at 1-0. Jillian Albayati, also from the United States, led in runs batted in with seven. Canada's Sena Catterall excelled in stolen bases with six, scored the most runs with nine, and earned the title of best defensive player.

Seven hitters recorded one home run, with Denae Benites of the United States awarded for achieving it in the fewest opportunities.
