The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) announced a series of tournament and promotional information for the Taipei City games of the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS during a press conference at the Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Taipei City on Monday. Ticket sales will open on 27 September for CTBC credit card customers, while general sales will open the next day.
Taipei City will host 14 Group B games in Taipei Dome and Tianmu Baseball Stadium from 13-18 November with ticket prices ranging from NT 280 ($9) to NT 3380 ($105) with various packages to choose from.
The opening games in Taipei City on Wednesday, 13 November at 18:30 (Taiwan time) see Chinese Taipei take on Korea in the Taipei Dome and Dominican Republic play Cuba in Tianmu Stadium at the same time. Group B starts on the same day in Japan with the hosts playing Australia at the Vantelin Dome Nagoya.
WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari extended his gratitude to the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association and its President Jeffrey Koo for their exceptional cooperation and support as host of Group B games via a video message. “I would also like to thank Taipei Major Chiang Wan-an and Chinese Professional Baseball League Chair Chi-Chang Tsai, as well as all the tournament sponsors for supporting the WBSC Premier12 and international baseball overall,” President Fraccari said.
"International baseball has never been stronger and continues to capture the world’s imagination, especially as we look ahead to Los Angeles 2028, where baseball will be a key part of the Olympic Games sports programme," he added. "Now we look forward to an exciting schedule of games, as the top 12 teams in the WBSC/KONAMI Men’s Baseball World Ranking chase the ultimate prize - the beautiful Premier12 trophy."
Koo, who is also a WBSC Vice President, expressed his appreciation for the support from the public sector and sponsors. As the President of CTBA, Koo also stated, “Our goal is to win the title. And I’d like to see our World Ranking become number one globally. It may be an elusive goal, but we need to set a goal for us to achieve.”
Chinese Taipei has held the number one position in the WBSC/KONAMI Men's Baseball World Ranking once previously on 31.12.2014, while having more recently been in the No. 2 spot in 2021/2022 and is currently second equal with Mexico behind Premier12 champions Japan.
CPBL Commissioner Chi-Chang Tsai said, “We will give our players the best care, and we will do whatever it takes to meet the needs of the players and the coaching staff.”
Tsai also expressed his appreciation to all six CPBL clubs for supporting the players' release to the Chinese Taipei team, “and we are operating with an advanced supporting task for the Premier12.”
During the press conference, CTBC Bank was also recognised as the “Top Sponsor” of the Taipei Round of the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS. CTBC Financial Holdings is a financial organisation in Taiwan investing in baseball development from grassroots to professional levels.
The local hosting organisation also introduced a 20-girl cheering squad, “CT Amaze.” The squad, composed of two cheer girls from each of the six CPBL clubs and eight cheer girls, will lead the crowds in all Chinese Taipei games during the Taipei City games.
Mexico will host Group A in Guadalajara and Tepic from 9-14 November where they will face USA, Venezuela, Netherlands, Panama and Puerto Rico.
After round-robin play, the top two finishers of each group will compete in the Super Round. The first and second-place teams of the Super Round will compete in the Premier12 Championship game, while the third and fourth-place finishers will play for the bronze medal.
The Tokyo Dome in Japan will host the Super Round (21-23 November) and the medal games on 24 November.
The Premier12, the WBSC's flagship event, is the most important baseball tournament of 2024. The 12 participants qualified through the WBSC/KONAMI World Rankings as at 31.12.2023.
