China to host V WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup from 6 to 15 September, 2024

The WBSC and the Chinese Baseball Association announced that the V WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup will run from 6 to 15 September, 2024. The Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Culture Center will host a WBSC baseball event in mainland China for the first time.

Meanwhile, eight out of 12 participating teams have qualified so far for the V WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup following the confirmation that the hosts China, who are not participating in this week's BFA Asian Baseball Championship, will receive a wild card.

Qualified Teams

Africa (1): Africa qualifier is scheduled for 21-27 February 2024
Asia (3): BFA Asian Baseball Championship is scheduled from 3 to 10 December in Taipei City.
Americas (4): No. 6 Venezuela, No. 12 Puerto Rico, No. 13 Colombia, No. 20 Nicaragua
Europe (2): No. 7 Netherlands and No. 18 Great Britain
Oceania (1): No. 11 Australia
Wild Card (1): World No. 24 China

World No. 1 Japan are the defending U-23 World Champions.

Impressive Venue

The Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Culture Center is China's largest and highest-standard baseball facility. It hosted the baseball and softball tournaments in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

The complex is located north of Shaoxing City. The baseball area includes a main stadium, a second field as well as a training and fitness centre. It's within walking distance from Jingshui Road Station of Shaoxing Metro Line 1 and a 30-minute drive from Xiaoshan International Airport.

The main stadium can seat 5,000 people and add 5,000 temporary seats. The second field has 1,500 seats and can add 1,000 temporary seats.

The training centre includes a five-star hotel managed by Shoulv Nanyuan Hotel Group equipped with 275 rooms, 2,000 dining seats, a 900 square metre banquet hall, theme restaurants and various conference rooms.

A New World

The venue is in the Future Community of Shaoxing City, a model project of green building materials.

Shaoxing is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province. It is located in the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta, and its population exceeds five million people.

It is known as "the land of beautiful mountains and rivers, the land of historical and cultural relics, and the land of celebrities". It also has the reputation as "the town of water, wine, bridge, calligraphy, opera, and celebrities".

The Shaoxing Municipal Bureau of Sports and the Shaoxing Municipal Bureau of Education launched in April 2022 the plan Let Baseball and Softball into Schools, which took baseball/softball to 52 primary and secondary schools.
