12U BWC: Italy has no problems with Philippines

Youth Park/Taipei City. Italy defeated the Philippines 12-2 at Youth Park Stadium on Saturday morning in Taipei City. After having the day off the Europeans returned to the stage with an easy victory, scoring in each of the five innings played. They are now 1-1 in the II 12U Baseball World Cup, while the Philippines dropped to 0-2.

After having the day off the Europeans returned to the stage with an easy victory, scoring in each of the five innings played. They are now 1-1 in the II 12U Baseball World Cup, while the Philippines dropped to 0-2.

Andrea Orrasch led Italy’s offense with a 3-for-3, three-RBI performance. Gabriele Angioi scored three times, batting in the leadoff spot. Efrician Mercado and Alex Romero-Salas scored the two runs for the Philippines in the third and the fourth.

Samuel Aldegheri picked up the win with three innings of strong relief for starting pitcher Samuele Galli, allowing just two hits, a run and three walks. Keano Reyes lasted just two outs on the mound for the Asian squad. He got charged with one hit, two runs and a walk before giving way to Roberto Morcilla, Earl Masangque and Derek Canlas.

On Sunday both teams will be back on the field in the morning. The Philippines host the Czech Republic at Shing-Sheng Stadium, while Italy takes on Japan at Tien-Mou.
