Seoul (Korea). The Netherlands are finishing in 11th place in the final standings of the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship. They defeated the Czech Republic 7-4 in the first classification game of the tournament on Wednesday evening at Mokdong Stadium. The Dutch team took the lead with a three-run fourth and backed it up with two runs in the eighth, just moments after the Czech Republic made it a one-run game.

Rachid Engelhardt had given the Netherlands a head start with a RBI triple in the top of the first. The Czech squad answered right away in the bottom half. Michal Vykoukal tied the contest with a RBI single and later was part of a run-down, which brought Richard Sazavsky home for a 2-1 advantage. This lasted until the third, when Jorin van Amstel made it 2-2 with a single following a triple by Marciano Phillippi.

One inning later the Netherlands took the lead for good. Dillon True drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI infield single and two more players crossed the plate on an error by right fielder Ivan Aubrecht. The Czech team tried to come back in the seventh. They loaded the bases with no outs and Filip Mostek forced in the first of two runs with a bases loaded walk. The second followed one strikeout later on an Adam Hajtmar infield single to second. But the rally stopped there, as Jakub Ondracek hit into an inning-ending double play. The Netherlands added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth on a two-run triple by Rachid Engelhardt to seal the victory.
