2012 European Championship: Results Day 2, September 8

Four teams improved to 2-0 in the 2012 European Championship on Saturday in the Netherlands. In Group A Italy got payback for a loss from 2010, defeating Sweden 8-1 thanks to a homerun by Juan Carlos Infante and a sound pitching performance. Also in this pool Spain crushed Russia 10-1, handing out 20 hits, while scoring four runs in the fourth and six in the eighth. In the third Group A matchup Greece scored six early runs en route to a 7-2 win over Croatia, their first in the tournament.

In Group B Germany didn’t have much trouble with Belgium in a 10-2 victory in the afternoon. Max Kepler hit another homerun. Andre Hughes pitched around ten hits to allow just one run in seven innings of work. In the evening the Netherlands dominated France from the beginning, winning 15-0 in five innings. Seven runs in the first brought the game quickly towards a blowout. Additionally Great Britain got into the win column by beating the Czech Republic 6-1.
