54th Youth Baseball Championship opens in Panama

The "celebration of summer in Panama" has 12 participating teams representing the country's provinces. The final series is scheduled for early March.

The Panama Baseball Federation's (FEDEBEIS) 54th Youth Baseball Championship started on Friday. The event, which will be used to select the National Team for the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, is known as "the celebration of summer in Panama".

The 12 participating teams represent the provinces of the country. They will compete in a 16-game regular season with the top eight finishers advancing to the playoffs, including quarterfinals, semifinals and a final series scheduled for early March.

"The Youth Baseball Championship has full houses, night after night, showing that baseball is the No. 1 sport in Panama," stated FEDEBEIS in a press release.

The 54th edition of the tournament is dedicated to Magaly Medina, who celebrates her 40th year as FEDEBEIS' secretary.
