USA's Adell, Ponce from WBSC Premier12 to MLB

The Los Angeles Angeles called up Adell and put Shohei Ohtani, another Premier12 star, on the injured list. Ponce pitched for the Pirates on Sunday, 2 August.

Jo Adell, who starred for the United States at the WBSC Premier12 2019, will be called up to the Major League Baseball (MLB) roster by the Los Angeles Angels.

Adell finished the II Premier12 with a .394 batting average, 3 home runs and 5 RBIs. His OPS was an astounding 1.126, and he tallied a .697 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage.

"I have to admit having chills the moment I saw the jersey for my current team when I walked up to my locker room stall last month in Arizona," admitted Adell, as he chronicled his baseball journey for The Undefeated. "The letters across the front read: USA. The number below it: 22."

"The 21-year-old has incredible raw power and can play all three outfield positions," reports MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger.

According to Bollinger, The Angels have "a crowded outfield with Justin Upton, Brian Goodwin and Mike Trout, but Adell could fill in for Goodwin or Upton based on matchups."

The Los Angeles Angels also announced that Shohei Ohtani, the two-way star who was the top pitcher in WBSC Premier12 2015, will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks.

The absence of Ohtani will most likely force the Angels to DH either Goodwin or Upton, thus opening more opportunities for Adell.

Cody Ponce, another USA star at the WBSC Premier12, made his MLB debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Ponce suffered the loss against the Chicago Cubs pitching as a reliever.

Cody Ponce, born 1994, started three Premier12 games for the USA. He combined 13.1 innings, striking out 11 and allowing ten hits. His Earned Run Average (ERA) was 2.03.
