Africa: Botswana to start selection process for WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup qualifier

An extended roster of players will open a training camp in Gaborone, aiming to form the national team for the U-23 Men’s Softball African Qualifier to be held in South Africa from 24-27 June 2021.

The Botswana Softball Association (BSA) has announced that a U-23 Men’s National Softball Team training camp will open on 30 January in Gaborone. The country’s 37 top players have been selected to participate in the selection camp.

With the announcement of the dates of the Men’s Softball African Qualifiers, the BSA rescheduled their training camps. The U-23 Men’s National Softball Team selection camp, originally planned to begin on 16 January, was pushed back and will now run from 30 January to 7 February.

The roster will be cut to 25 players, who will continue training on regular basis, and ultimately the final team will include 15 athletes who will then compete at the qualification event.

The African qualifier for the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup will be held at Barnard Stadium, Kempton Park, South Africa, from 24-27 June 2021, and will grant one spot in the global tournament.

Botswana is ranked 12th in the WBSC Men's Softball World Rankings.
