Africa: WBSC Men’s, U-23 Softball World Cup qualifiers confirmed for February

African nations will compete for one spot in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup, to be played in Auckland, New Zealand, and the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, slated to be played in Argentina. Both qualifiers will be hosted in Pretoria, South Africa.

WBSC Africa has announced the dates of the African Qualifiers for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup and the WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup. Both events will be held in South Africa.

The African continental qualifier for the next WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup will be played in Pretoria from 11-13 February 2022, with the winner earning a ticket to the World Cup. Host South Africa will enter the continental event as the defending champion, after winning the African Championship in 2019, defeating Botswana, 4-2, in the final match. Botswana, Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa and Zambia have shown interest to play in the event. 

The WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup 2022 will be played in Auckland, New Zealand, from 26 November to 4 December. The winner of the African Qualifier will join Czech Republic and Denmark as the only qualified nations for the top men’s softball tournament in the world. They will compete against the top two nations from Asia and Oceania, the top four from the Americas and a wild card.

The African qualifier for the inaugural U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup will be held from 8-10 February 2022, and will grant one spot in the global tournament. Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia have expressed their interest in competing in the event, with the final confirmation of teams still pending.

The maiden WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup will be played in Argentina.
