Aminah Vega homers, Puerto Rico grabs key win against Peru

Keira Bucher pitched the complete game for the Puerto Rican squad, striking out 10 Peruvian hitters.

Aminah Vega and Janelle Martinez produced Puerto Rico’s five runs in the game, leading the way in their team’s 5-2 win over host Peru Wednesday afternoon at Villa Maria del Triunfo complex in Lima. The victory keeps Puerto Rico in the fight for a medal spot.

Vega hit a leadoff homer that set the table for the future of the game. In the bottom of the third inning, Janelle Martinez hit a two-run single to center field to make the score 3-0. 

Peru’s two runs were scored in the fourth frame, on a single to third base by Alessandra Teruya and an RBI-double by Yanina Sherwood. 

However, in the fifth, Vega doubled-in Kathryna Garcia and Martinez added one more with a sac fly.

Keira Bucher pitched the complete game for the Puerto Rican squad, striking out 10 Peruvian hitters.

The loser was Aimi Tohara, in 4.1 innings of work giving up eight hits and five runs.
