Azraq Refugee Camp: 90 boys & girls play Baseball5 at Open Sports Day

Three teams participated in the U-12 category, eight in the U-14 age brackets, and three competed at the U-16 level, involving 90 boys and girls. The event was in preparation for the Hope and Dreams Sports Festival on 1 May.

The WBSC Baseball5 Refugee Team organized the second edition of the Ramadan Open Sports Day inside the Azraq Refugee Camp. Three Baseball5 tournaments involved 90 girls and boys of three age brackets. Three teams participated in the U-12 category, eight in the U-14 age brackets, and three competed at the U-16 level.

The camp security director, Colonel Fadi Al-Zoubi (pictured above), distributed medals and prizes to the champions of the different age groups. He praised the level of competition.

Players emphasized the importance of Baseball5 in their personal growth. Their families showed gratefulness to the WBSC for the Baseball5 activity in the Refugee Camp.

At the end of the day, the players and their families participated in a Ramadan Iftar (a night meal) inside the training hall at the Humanitarian Taekwondo Foundation's Humanitarian Sports Centre.

"The Open Day aimed at getting the kids ready for the Hope and Dreams Sports Festival," head coach Amjad Alatoom commented.

The Hope and Dreams Sports Festival, a Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) initiative, includes exercises and demonstrations of each sport at the Azraq and Za’atari Refugee Camps (Baseball5, Badminton and Taekwondo), followed by competitions across two fields of play in Amman.

The WBSC Baseball5 team at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan celebrated the first anniversary of the Azraq Baseball5 Refugee project on Monday, 1 January 2024.
