Bahamas 17-year-old Adari Grant signs with MLB's St Louis Cardinals

The 17-year old attended the I-Elite Sports Academy in New Providence. The islands have had so far seven MLB players

Adari Grant, a 17-year-old shortstop, became the very first prospect from the Bahamas to sign a professional contract with the St Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB).

“It’s surreal. I feel excited. Also, I feel anxious to start my professional career, and I know I’m going to make everyone proud and represent The Bahamas very well," Grant told TheFreeportnews.com. "My mindset is the same as always, it’s never changed. Although I signed today, I’m keeping the same underdog mentality, work ethic and that’s going hard at it, 24/7. That’s how it always will be."

Grant attended the I-Elite Sports Academy two-year programme in New Providence. The programme currently hosts a range of 20-30 athletes and offers a mixture of customized education and professional training.

The Bahamas have had a total of seven MLB players in their baseball history. The last who made his debut was Jazz Chisholm of the Miami Marlins.

The Bahamas is currently ranked 84th in the WBSC Men's Baseball World Rankings.
