Baseball and softball show impressive development results in Zhejiang province, China

There are now 11 fields and a population of 10,000 baseball players in the Zhejiang province, China. The Shaoxing Baseball/Softball Sports and Culture Center will host the Asian Games in 2023.

The Zhejiang Provincial Baseball and Softball Association (ZBSA) revealed impressive results of baseball and softball development in the Zhejiang province.

Baseball in Zhejiang has expanded to hundreds of schools and there are now 11 baseball fields in Zhejiang province with over 10,000 players. One of the examples of how successful the outreach of baseball in Zhejiang is the Joyful Baseball Club founded in 2019. Over 40 fathers teamed up to build the first-ever baseball field in the area, which took seven months to complete. And the team of fathers could play baseball and kids could play softball in the new field.

Moreover, Xujiadai Village of Pinghu City became the “First Village of Chinese Baseball” in the country. The village includes the first youth baseball field in the province meeting international standards, a culture center, and a practicing and resting area. Approximately $1 million were invested in the project.

The village already hosted 15 baseball events until 2021, including three national and six provincial events. It involved nearly 200 teams and over 7,000 athletes and accompanying parents.

In 2020, Lindai town, Pinghu, earned the hosting rights to four editions of the “National Youth U-10 Baseball Championship”.

Zhejiang will host the next Asian Games from September 23rd to October 8th 2023. The Shaoxing Baseball/Softball Sports and Culture Center was officially opened in June of 2022. It is the largest, highest specification and international standard game venue in China and will be used as the baseball and softball venue of the Asian Games. It includes two baseball fields, two softball fields, and a training center.
