Baseball Canada cancels 2020 National Championships

As many as 11 tournaments were set to take place primarily during the month of August. Canada's governing body of baseball called the decision "difficult".

Baseball Canada’s Board of Directors along with the Executive Committee have made the decision to cancel all 2020 National Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Baseball Canada called the decision "difficult".

"After extensive discussions and careful consideration among our executive committee and board of directors, we arrived at the decision to cancel all of our 2020 national championships,” said Baseball Canada President Jason Dickson. “Although this decision will be disappointing to many across the Canadian baseball community, we felt it was the best decision to make given that the health and welfare of our members is paramount in these uncertain times."

Baseball Canada scheduled as many as 11 National Tournaments, that were set to take place primarily during the month of August, beginning with the Baseball Canada Cup in Fort MC Murray, Alberta, from 5 to 9 August and concluding with the U-13 National Atlantic Championship from 17 to 20 September in St. John's, Newfoundland.

At the international level, Canada's men's programme is currently 13th in the WBSC World Rankings, while the women's programme is second in the world.
