Asian Games 2022: Baseball Federation of Japan reveals top amateur prospect list

Japan, with amongst the deepest talent pools in the baseball world, has won a medal in all seven baseball competitions of the Asian Games.

The Baseball Federation of Japan (BFJ) has released the top amateur prospect list and scouting data of 92 players who are candidates for the Japanese National Baseball Team that will participate in the 2022 edition of the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China, from 10-25 September 2022.

The list includes 36 pitchers, 11 catchers, 26 infielders and 19 outfielders, with the list and data subject to change.

BFJ President Masatake Yamanaka said, "We would like to focus on the field of science and improve players' skills and coaching." 

World No. 1 Japan has won a medal in all seven baseball competitions of the Asian Games, winning gold in the inaugural event in Hiroshima 1994. At Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games, Japan lost in the final against Korea, 3-0.

The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games will feature 40 sports, encompassing a total of 61 disciplines, including men’s baseball and women’s softball.
