Baseball set to open Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games sports programme as Chile take on Mexico on Wednesday

The official competition at the Pan Am Games will start on Wednesday, 18 October, with day 1 of the baseball competition. It’s the first and only sport to be played across the entire Games programme.

Hosts Chile will take on Mexico on Wednesday 18 October at 9:30 am in Game 1 of the baseball competition in the first official sport's event of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world. You can see the schedule and results here.

Eight teams will compete in two groups until 24 October at the Baseball and Softball Centre in Chile’s capital, with the top-two advancing to the Super Round. In Group A sees Chile, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama participate while Brazil, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela feature in Group B.

The Super Round is scheduled for 26 and 27 October, with the medal games on 28 October.

On day 2, Panama and the Dominican Republic will play at 09:30 while Venezuela and Brazil will open Group B competition at 15:00. Colombia and Cuba will make their debut in the Games on Friday, 09:30.

Baseball has been part of the Pan American Games since the first edition that took place at Buenos Aires 1951. At Lima 2019, Puerto Rico claimed its first-ever gold medal, defeating Canada, 6-1, in the final.

The softball competition will start on 29 October, with the same competition format.
