Baseball5 African Championship opens in Cape Verde

The tournament will qualify two National Teams for the second WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

The Vavá Duarte Sport PAvilion (Pavilhão Desportivo) in Praia, Santiago Island, Cape Verde, is the hosting venue of the second Baseball5 African Championship. The tournament will qualify two teams for the second WBSC Baseball5 World Cup scheduled for later this year in Hong Kong.

The defending champions and World No. 7 South Africa and No. 4 Tunisia look like the clear favourites. The other two participants are No. 24 Tanzania and the hosts Cape Verde.

The opening round will determine places for the medal round, which will be played according to the Page System format on Thursday, 8 February.

The first and second-place finishers will compete for a spot in the final and the first spot in the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. The loser will face the other semifinal winner for the second spot in the final and a ticket to the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup.

Hong Kong will host the second WBSC Baseball5 World Cup later in 2024 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space. The official dates will be announced soon.
