Baseball5 continues to grow in Argentina & Uruguay with first international youth competition in La Plata

Teams from Argentina and Uruguay joined together in La Plata to play the Rioplatense Cup, an international event with six teams.

With Baseball5’s official debut in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games fast approaching, WBSC’s new urban discipline keeps flourishing around the world. Six teams from Uruguay and Argentina competed for two days in La Plata in the first-ever youth Baseball5 international tournament held in Argentina.

The participating teams were Uruguay, Leones de La Plata, Piratas de La Plata, a selection from the Metropolitan Baseball League, Ocelotes de Merlo and high school Nº 60 from Merlo. The six teams, with players from 13 to 18 years old, played a single round robin of 15 games.

The event was hosted at The Children’s Republic (República de los Niños), an iconic public park located in La Plata, around 60 kilometres away from Buenos Aires city.

It was the first international experience for Uruguay. Baseball5 was introduced in the South American country on July 2022, and six months later hosted a demonstration in Punta del Este beach, one of the most important resorts in the region. It was the seed that formed the team that now travelled to La Plata to compete in Argentina.
