Baseball5 is being used by governing body Softball Association of Malaysia to spread the game.

Baseball5 represents a relevant part of the Softball Association of Malaysia (SAM) 2022-23 development plan.

In March, SAM started its Baseball5 activity, coordinated by secretary-general Willeam Mah Choon How. The first step is to introduce the five-on-five version of baseball/softball in primary schools.

SAM also sees the possibility of expanding Baseball5 to different age brackets.
"You can play it everywhere. It's open to everyone in Malaysia, ranging from 10 to 70 years of age," stated a press release.

SAM successfully completed the activity scheduled for the month of March, making the most of the #playeverywhere chance that Baseball5 offers. SAM practised the five-on-five version of baseball/softball in softball, futsal and badminton venues.

Two Baseball5 clinics attracted 60 participants in Pulau Pinang and Ipoh (Perak). Pulau Pinang also hosted a course for 60 teachers from the Penang State Education Department. Two more Baseball5 clinics attracted 60 participants indoors in Trengganu and outdoors in Kuantan (Pahang).

More activity is scheduled for May. SAM plans to take Baseball5 to Melaka, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Polimas (Jitra) and again Pulau Pinang, and estimates to attract over 200 participants.

Malaysia is working on hosting the Asia Qualifier to the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup during the summer and organising the first National Baseball5 Open in October.

The launch of the Malaysia Baseball5 League is planned for 2023.
