Baseball5 in Africa: Cape Verde Olympic Committee latest to come on board

Five-on-five Baseball5 will be played at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal.

The Cape Verde Olympic Committee has announced it will support the development of Baseball5 in the islands by funding coaching courses in Mindelo, Boavista, Fogo and Santiago.

Five-on-five Baseball5 will be played at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal -- marking the first time any baseball-softball discipline is featured on the official YOG programme.

Olympic news specialists Inside the Games reported that Cape Verde Baesball5 programme will be held under the Olympic Solidarity development of National Sports System initiatives.

The deal is part of the Memorandum of Understanding the National Olympic Committee signed with various national sports federations, includes baseball/softball, swimming, weight lifting and gymnastics.

The Cape Verde Baseball Softball Federation was founded in 2020 by current president Luiz Roberto Nunes, who fell in love with the bat and ball sports as a student in the United States. Nunes fell in love with baseball while watching a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves and later played softball.
