Baseball5: Japan ties exhibition series against Chinese Taipei, launches National Championship

Japan earned a silver medal at the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup last year while Chinese Taipei finished third.

World No. 4 Japan and No. 2 Chinese Taipei finished a Baseball5 exhibition series at Oasis 21, Sakae Station, Higashi-ku, Nagoya City - the host city of the 2026 Asian Games - tied at 1-1 before Chinese Taipei was awarded the win having scored more runs.

The two games were played over a best-of-three-matches with both games going to the third match.

Ayano Kazuta (Japan) and Shih Chi-Ting Hua (Chinese Taipei) earned MVP honours.

The goal was to increase awareness of Baseball5, a discipline which can contribute to promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included in the United Nations' Agenda 2030.

Aichi Television supported the event.

Baseball5 Japan also announced the plan for the first National Championship in the Adults and Youth (15-18 age bracket) categories, matching the age ranges of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup and Youth Baseball5 World Cup.

The National Championship will include eight participants per category. Baseball5 Japan will announce the format of the qualification tournaments in the various districts at a later date.

The tentative date for the first Japanese Baseball5 National Championship is 4 February 2024.

Japan earned a silver medal at the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup while Chinese Taipei finished third with Japan winning their pool game encounter, again in three matches.
