The
Alexandra Baseball Club organised a Baseball5 festival for the local U-15 and U-18
age groups from surrounding schools in the South African township of Alexandra.
The event
was held from 1-2 September at the Altrec Sports Grounds in Alexandra, which is
close to the centre of Johannesburg.
The competitive co-ed tournament will also be utilised for the selection of provincial and national Baseball5 squads, in line with the development of the game of baseball and softball’s street version in the African continent.
South Africa saw action at the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in El Zocalo, Mexico, where they placed seventh overall.
The African
powerhouse is now ranked fifth in the world and are making their way to develop
their youth programme through these Baseball5 festivals in key cities and
townships.
