Bolivarian Games 2022: Softball gets underway with baseball to follow

Following a four-million dollar renovation, Erasmo Camacho Baseball Stadium will be one of the biggest legacies of the 2022 Bolivarian Games, which are taking place in Valledupar, Colombia.

The Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games women’s softball competition opened this past Saturday (25 June) with seven participating teams competing for gold. The four-team baseball event is set to start on Wednesday, 29 June.

The women’s softball event started on Saturday with four games at Unidad Deportiva Central softball stadium. No. 14 Venezuela, No. 22 Peru, No. 36 Guatemala, No. 39 Colombia, No. 43 Dominican Republic, No. 57 Panama and No. 62 Bolivia are playing a single round robin that will conclude on Tuesday, 28 June, with the top four nations advancing to a page playoff. 

The gold medal game is slated to be played on Thursday, 30 June, at 6 p.m. local time.

Venezuela is the defending gold medal winner, after winning the final against Colombia, 3-0 in 2017. 

The baseball competition will open on Wednesday at Erasmo Camacho Baseball Stadium, with four participating teams competing for the gold medal. World No. 6 Venezuela will take on No. 7 Dominican Republic, No. 11 Colombia and No. 44 Peru in the week-long competition.

The Bolivarian Games are a quadrennial event organised by the Bolivarian Sports Organisation (ODEBO), with the participation of 11 National Olympic Committees from South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
