Canada announces roster for XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier

Manager Greg Hamilton selected the 20-man roster after an eight-game camp in the Dominican Republic. In September, nine players represented Canada at the XXX WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

Canada announced their roster for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2023 Americas qualifier.

The roster was finalized after an eight-game Selection Camp in the Dominican Republic, where the squad faced off with Dominican Professional Academy teams from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres organizations.

Nine of the 20 players selected by manager Greg Hamilton represented Canada at the XXX WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in September, including left-handed pitchers Elliot Cadieux-Lanoue and Reece Usselman; right-handed pitcher Makaio Cisneros and Jack Pineau: infielders Ty Hall and Sam Shaw; outfielder and left-handed pitcher Ty Hamilton, third baseman Myles Naylor, outfielder and left-handed pitcher Keegan O’Hearn.

Ten players will make their international debut at the U-18 level, including right-handed pitchers Matthew Brown, Tate Carey, Matthew Donnison, Benjamin Soke, and Michael Yusypchuk; catchers Cardel Dick and Cam Macleod; outfielders Noah Konings and Jorge Valdes; infielder Brendan Lawson.

The FULL ROSTER

Hamilton's staff includes coaches Rob Butler, Pete Orr, Chris Reitsma and Larry Pearson.

The qualification tournament will open on Friday, 4 November, in La Paz, the capital city of the Mexican State of Baja California Sur. The other host city is Cabo San Lucas. The top four finishers will qualify for the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

World No. 12 Canada will compete in Group B and face No. 5 USA, No. 6 Venezuela, No. 16 Puerto Rico and No. 44 Peru.

Group A will include the hosts and world No. 4 Mexico, No. 7 Dominican Republic, No. 9 Cuba, No. 13 Panama and No. 15 Nicaragua.
