GOLD COAST, Australia-Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, BC) hit a two-run single in the bottom of the third for all of the offense Canada would need as Travis Seabrooke (Peterborough, ON) and Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, ON) combined on a six-hit 3-0 shutout over Australia.

Josh Naylor’s (Mississauga, ON) sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the eighth scored Chris Thibideau (Dartmouth, NS) with an insurance run.

Seabrooke was in control from the first inning as he struck out the first batter he faced before getting two fly-outs to end the inning.

After allowing an infield single in the second inning, Seabrooke retired five straight before giving up back-to-back singles in the fourth.

He got into a bit of trouble later in the inning walking the bases loaded with two-out, but was able to get a strikeout to get out of it.

Seabrooke’s five inning outing saw him give up three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Cal Quantrill took over for him in the sixth and picked up exactly where he left off keeping the Aussies off-balance for the remainder of the game.

The Aussies tried to make things interesting in the ninth getting the tying run to the plate with one out, but Quantrill was able to get a groundout and pop-out to first baseman Mitch Bigras (Sarnia, ON) in foul territory to end the game.

Through four innings, Quantrill gave-up three hits and struck out three to earn the save.

Toby Handley (Whitby, ON) and JD Osborne (Whitby, ON) each collected two singles with Osborne also scoring a run as part of Canada’s eight hit attack.
