Canada sweeps Netherlands in women’s softball exhibition series as Canada Cup set to open

It was the first of the two series of the Tokyo 2020 Celebration Tour, and Canada’s first game since winning its historic bronze medal at the Olympic Games last summer.

The Canadian Women’s National Softball Team completed a sweep against the Netherlands at the Old Fairgrounds in Brampton on Saturday with 3-1 and 7-4 wins. The third-ranked team in the world had opened the series with a pair of wins on Thursday and Friday, 9-2.

It was the first of the two series of the Tokyo 2020 Celebration Tour, and Canada’s first game since winning its historic bronze medal at the Olympic Games last summer. The series also marked Kaleigh Rafter’s debut as the new head coach.

Both Canada and the Netherlands moved to Surrey for the Canada Cup slated to begin today, Monday 20 June.

The WBSC-sanctioned event will have a strong field of teams competing, with No. 1 USA, No. 4 Mexico, No. 6 Chinese-Taipei, No. 8 Australia, No. 10 Netherlands, and No. 11 Czech Republic going head to head for the international tournament title.
