Chinese Taipei grabbed their fifth consecutive win in the U-18 Softball World Cup to remain on top of the standings, with an 8-0 victory over host Peru Thursday night in Lima.
Chinese Taipei took control of the game in the fourth inning. With a runner on, Kuei-Ping Yeh hit a line drive down the right field line that was misread by Peru’s right fielder Abby Espinoza, allowing Kuei-Ping Yeh to round the bases for a two-run inside the park home run.
In the top of the sixth, Chi-Yun Lin crushed a 0-1 pitch over the center field fence for a solo home run. Chinese Taipei added two more runs in the inning, on an RBI triple by Hsin-Yun Li and a fielder’s choice.
Chi-Yun Lin added a run in the seventh with an RBI double, and then scored on a run-scoring single off the bat of Kuei-Ping Yeh, who collected three RBI on the game.
Yi-Shan Chu pitched a two-hit shutout for Chinese Taipei, with 12 strikeouts.
For Peru, the loss was charged to Yanina Sherwood.
