Chilean Women's National Softball Team tops Ukraine to win Basque Country International Cup

The South American nation, which prepares to host the Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games, defeated Ukraine, 5-1, in the final of the four-team competition.

The world No. 62 Chilean Women's National Softball Team defeated No. 32 Ukraine, 5-1, in the final game of the Basque Country International Cup. No. 18 France defeated host Euskadi 7-1 in five innings to win the bronze medal.

Four teams from four different countries played in the WBSC-sanctioned Basque Country International Cup, including the National Teams of Chile, France and Ukraine, and host Euskadi.

The Chilean softball squad is preparing for its first-ever Pan American Games participation next year when the nation’s capital, Santiago, hosts the Games. Chile, as host nation, is currently the only confirmed squad for the continental multi-sport event. The field of teams in Santiago will advance from the Pan American Softball Championship in Guatemala this November.

Ukraine and France will play in the Women’s Softball European Championship in Spain from 24-30 July, which serves as the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup European qualifier. Both teams will play in Group C, along with Czech Republic, Great Britain and Turkey.
