Chinese Taipei slugger Yu Chang to play for MLB's Boston Red Sox

The 27-year-old infielder will reportedly earn US$ 850,000 plus incentives.

Chinese Taipei slugger Yu Chang agreed to terms for a one-year contract, reportedly worth US$ 850,000 plus incentives, with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Chang, 27, was born in Taitung, Taiwan, but spent his professional career in the United States. He signed as an international free agent for a US$ 500,000 bonus with the Cleveland Indians in 2013. He made his professional debut at the rookie level in 2014 and his MLB debut on 28 June, 2019.

The Indians, after renaming as the Guardians, traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates on 30 May 2022. Before the end of the season, Chang was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays on 5 July and by the Boston Red Sox on 12 September. He became a free agent on 18 November.

Chang has appeared in 196 MLB games so far. He played at all infield positions and pitched two innings for the Rays.
