Cincinnati Reds sign WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup alum Ichiro Cano

The 19-year-old was Mexico's starting third baseman at the XXX and XXXI U-18 Baseball World Cups.

The Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) signed 19-year-old Mexican switch-hitting infielder Ichiro Cano.

Cano was Mexico's starting third baseman and the XXX WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2022 and at the XXXI edition in 2023.

Born in San José del Cabo, Baja, California, he graduated from the Alfredo Harp Academy and was selected by the Chihuahua Dorados in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) expansion draft.

Chihuahua will return to LMB action in the 2024 season.

In 2023, Cano made his LMB debut for the Mexico City Diablos Rojos, playing six games, and appeared in five Mexican Pacific League (LMP) games for the league champions Culiacan Tomateros.
