USA's Coy James earns WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup MVP honours as All-World team announced

The 2022 WBSC U-15 All-World Team features players from Cuba, USA , Chinese Taipei, Japan, Panama and Puerto Rico.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) revealed the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2022 MVP and “All-World Team” Sunday night, following the conclusion of the World Championship Final between USA and CUBA at Sonora Stadium in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Coy James was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). The US center fielder hit .478 with two home runs, eight RBI and 11 runs scored. “It feels good right now, to help the team win, nothing better than that,” James said after the World Championship Final. 

The WBSC U-15 All-World Team features players from Cuba, USA , Chinese Taipei, Japan, Panama and Puerto Rico.

  • Catcher: Yaider Ruiz (CUB)
  • First Baseman: Kanta Kanemoto (JPN)
  • Second Baseman: Tien-Szu Huang (TPE)
  • Third Baseman: Alejandro Cruz (CUB)
  • Shortstop: Ethan Holliday (USA)
  • Outfield: Isaac Carrasquillo (PUR)
  • Outfield: Coy James (USA)
  • Outfield: Juan Caballero (PAN)
  • Best Starting Pitcher: Yao-Yun Chang (TPE)
  • Best Relief Pitcher: Daniel Reyes (PAN)
  • Designated Hitter: Andrew Costello (USA)
  • Most Valuable Player: Coy James (USA)

USA’s Costello and James were the home run leaders in the tournament with two, while their teammate Holliday led the tournament in RBIs with 10.

Japan’s Kanta Kanemoto hit a leading two triples in the event. 

Bronze medallist pitcher Yao-Yun Chang (TPE) collected two victories, with via a complete game. Chang was second in innings pitched with 14, recording a 1.50 ERA.

Cuban Daniel Reyes was named Best Relief Pitcher. He earned two wins in four relief appearances, had an ERA of 0.95 and registered nine strikeouts.

During the ceremony, the the Individual Awards recipients were presented:

  • PITCHER WITH BEST ERA: Ben Couvreur - FRA (0.00 ERA – 10.2 IP)
  • PITCHER WITH BEST WIN-LOSS RECORD: Yao-Yun Chang - TPE (2 W – 0 L – 14.0 IP)
  • MOST RBI: Ethan Holliday - USA (10 RBI)
  • MOST HOME RUNS: James Coy - USA (2 HR – 23 AB)
  • MOST STOLEN BASES: Alex Harrington - USA (8 SB)
  • MOST RUNS SCORED: James Coy - USA (15 Runs)
  • BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER: Jonathan Villa – CUB
