Croatian baseball league set to open, joins others across Europe

Croatia has been relatively spared by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and all games will be open to spectators.

Croatia is the latest country in Europe to announce the opening its baseball season, joining others like Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland and Switzerland.

The top baseball league of Croatia is scheduled to start during the weekend with two doubleheaders:

  • Olimpija vs. Vindija
  • Nada vs. Zagreb

Croatia has been relatively spared by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and all games will be open to spectators.

The Croatian First Division will be a five-team league. The original plan for the 2020 season was a Central European League involving the best teams of Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Serbia. The project was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Croatian First Division will play its regular season until mid-August. The top four finishers will then play in the playoffs and the best two will compete in the best of seven final series at the end of September.
