Cuba to honour 60th anniversary of its National Baseball League ahead of 61st season

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari will attend the league ceremony on 14 January. Cuba considers baseball a National Cultural Heritage.

Cuba is ready to honour the 60th anniversary of its National Baseball League (Serie Nacional). WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari will join the Gala scheduled for 14 January as well as meet with representatives of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Cuba Olympic Committee and National Institute of Sport.

Following the commemoration of the 60th anniversary, the 61st edition of the Cuban Serie Nacional will open on 22 January 2022 at the Martires de Barbados Stadium in Bayamo Eastern part of the island.

Cuban baseball authorities said 14 of the 16 venues of the league passed inspections and are ready to host games. Two stadiums -- 26 de Julio Stadium in Artemisa and the Calixto Garcia Stadium in Holguin -- will need to undergo renovations before the season starts.

League officials also stated that the general rules for the 2022 season would include strict sanitary protocols against the COVID-19 pandemic.
