Cuba's 62nd Baseball National League to open on 22 March

Estadio Mártires de Barbados in Bayamo will host the re-match of the final series between Granma and Matanzas.

The two-time defending champions Granma will host the opening game of the 62nd edition of the Cuban National League on 22 March at Estadio Mártires de Barbados in Bayamo. They will face Matanzas, the last team to win the title before their back-to-back pennants.

The National Baseball Commission (CNB) will approve the final schedule in early March. The idea is to develop the regular season through 15 five-game series played in four days. One of the four days is planned as a seven-inning doubleheader.

Commissioner Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo said that the 62nd National League would be a particularly special one, celebrating opening day one day after the World Baseball Classic final on 21 March while planning to release players to the National Team for the Central American and Caribbean Games (23 June through 8 July), the Pan American Games Qualifier in May and the Pan American Games itself in November.
