Dates set for WBSC U-12 Mixed Softball World Cup, five of eight teams confirmed

An increased number of eight mixed-gender teams, twice as many as the first edition in 2019, will be participating in the event.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), in conjunction with the local organising committee, today announced the dates of the II WBSC U-12 Mixed Softball World Cup. The tournament will be held from 7-11 December 2022 in Taichung, Chinese Taipei.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place from 1-12 December 2021, but was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID pandemic.

An increased number of eight mixed-gender teams, twice as many as the first edition in 2019, will be participating in the event.

Five teams have confirmed their participation in the event: South Africa will represent Africa; Hong Kong China and Singapore will represent Asia; and Czech Republic will represent Europe. Host Chinese Taipei has been awarded an automatic berth into the eight-team tournament. Two teams from the Americas and a wild card will complete the list of participants.

Tournament Format

The teams will be drawn into two groups of four for an opening round-robin, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Round. The two nations with the best Super Round records will play in the world championship final, while the third- and fourth-place finishers will meet in the bronze medal game.

The WBSC aims to develop the U-12 Mixed Softball World Cup into one of the most progressive events on the international youth sports calendar, while further boosting gender equality across all WBSC disciplines.

Four teams participated in the inaugural WBSC U-12 Mixed Softball World Cup. Czech Republic, Indonesia, Peru and host Chinese Taipei featured in the tournament at Tainan City's Gueiren Baseball Stadium. Chinese Taipei won the event, defeating Peru, 3-2, in the final.
