Dominican Republic announce roster for baseball tournament of Central American and Caribbean Games

"We put together the best team possible," commented Juan Núñez Nepomuceno, the president of the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE). The top four finishers of the eight-team tournament will qualify for the Pan Am Games.

General manager Luis Polonia Junior revealed the Dominican Republic roster for the baseball tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

"We put together the best team possible," commented Juan Núñez Nepomuceno, the president of the Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE). "We want to come back home with a medal."

FEDOBE named Felix Fermin the manager and former Major League Baseball (MLB) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) pitcher Ramon Ramirez the pitching coach. Anthony Dominguez will serve as first base coach, while former MLB utility Luis Polonia will coach at third base.

World No. 10 Dominican Republic will compete from 24 June to 1 July with No. 3 Mexico, No. 6 Venezuela, No. 7 Cuba, No. 11 Puerto Rico, No. 17 Nicaragua, No. 32 Curaçao, the host and No. 59 El Salvador in the baseball tournament of the Central American and Caribbean Games at the Parque Nacional de Pelota Saturnino Bengoa in San Salvador.

The top four finishers will qualify for the XIX Pan American Games baseball tournament, scheduled in October in Santiago, Chile.

The host nation Chile, No. 15 Colombia (winners of the Junior Pan American Games) and No. 24 Brazil, also winners of the South American Games, are already qualified. The winner of a qualifying tournament scheduled in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 16 to 21 July, will be the eighth participant.
