Dominican Republic sweeps Bolivarian Games baseball and softball competitions

The Dominican Republic National Baseball and Softball Teams shined in the multi-sport event in Colombia.

The Dominican Republic swept the gold medals in the baseball and softball events at the XIX Bolivarian Games in Valledupar, Colombia. The host nation earned the silver medal in both events, while Venezuela (baseball) and Peru (softball) completed the podiums.

World No. 43 Dominican Republic defeated No. 39 Colombia, 12-3, in the final contest of the softball competition and earned the gold medal in the regional event. No. 22 Peru earned the the bronze medal.

A total of seven nations participated in the event, held at Unidad Deportiva Central softball stadium in Valledupar, Colombia.

In the baseball event, No. 7 Dominican Republic (5-1) clinched the gold medal on Monday, 4 July, defeating host Colombia, 6-2, to guarantee the top place in the standings.

No. 11 Colombia and No. 6 Venezuela finished the double round robin with an even 3-3 record, but the host team earned the silver medal via the tie-break rule. Peru (1-5) finished fourth.
