Mexico's El Zocalo to host Baseball5 World Cup 2022 from 7-13 November, Australia confirmed as sixth qualifier

The Inaugural Baseball5 global event event will be played from 7-13 November at El Zocalo in Mexico City. The announcement was made during the WBSC Congress in Taipei, Taiwan.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) confirmed the dates of the first WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. The inaugural competition will be played from 7-13 November in Mexico City, Mexico. The announcement was made during the WBSC Congress in Taipei, Taiwan. 

The maiden edition of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup -- a mixed gender competition -- will be held at El Zocalo, one of the most iconic, historic and visited places in Mexico City. 

Australia was also announced as the sixth qualifier out of 12 teams following the confirmation of WBSC Oceania that they will represent the region in the inaugural WBSC World Cup.

Mexico, as host nation, receives an automatic berth in the Baseball5 World Cup while France and Lithuania qualified nations for the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup via the Europe championship and South Africa and Kenya advanced out of the African championship. Teams from the Americas (3) and Asia (3) are still to be determined. 

The international calendar includes the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup on even years and the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup (14-18 age bracket) on odd years. The events will happen on a two-year cycle. 

The 2025 edition of the Baseball5 World Cup will serve as a qualifier to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where the discipline will make its debut as an official medal sport.
