"Hopefully, within ten years, in every organization, the most qualified person will get the job, whether it's a woman or whoever they are," she told the local press.

Emily Glass became the first female scout in the history of the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).

"What stands out for me as super-important is a player's passion and love for the game, especially when you are looking at young people, age 16-22," Glass said.

"I don't really think of myself as a trailblazer," Glass told the local press. "There have been other women who have scouted for other organizations, but I can say that I'm really proud that I'm the first one to do it here. Hopefully, within 10 years, in every organization, the most qualified person will get the job, whether it's a woman or whoever they are."

Glass grew up in California as an Oakland A's fan. She started playing baseball (catcher) with the boys. In high school, she switched to softball and played two years of college softball at Pomona. She graduated from Pomona College in 2015 with a thesis exploring the increase of Latin American players in the major leagues.

After college, she was awarded a one-year grant "for purposeful exploration outside the United States". She used it to explore baseball development in Aruba, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Chile, Australia and Japan.

Before joining the Rockies, she worked for over two years as the Miami Marlins education coordinator.

During her stint with the Marlins, she had a chance to meet Kim Ng when the Marlins hired her as their general manager.

"Kim is always the hardest-working person in the room, and she is probably the brightest person in every room, but she doesn't have to make you know that," commented Glass.

The Marlins eliminated their education coordinator programme after the 2021 season. Glass decided to join the MLB Diversity Pipeline Scout Development Programme. She was one of 13 people hired from the programme.
