Europe: Blind Baseball set to grow in Hungary, Austria and Slovenia

The practice of baseball for the visually impaired is steadily on the rise in Europe.

The WBSC partnered with the Italian Blind Baseball Association (AIBxC) in September 2021 to hold a clinic in Erd, in the Budapest area, Hungary. The goal was to launch a new team.

Less than one year later, Hungary has two teams. One is in Erd, and the second one is in Baranya, in the country's south. The team practised in Hosszúhetény.

Erd baseball and softball club president Terry Lingenhoel is hopeful that a second team will start working in Erd and that the active clubs will start competing in September.

Italy, France and Germany are the leading European Blind Baseball movement. Recently the UK and the Netherlands added activity.

AIBxC is supporting development also in Graz, Austria, and Slovenia. Representatives of the new clubs will join a clinic in Staranzano, north-eastern Italy, on 19 June.
