Lin’s triple, Feng’s pitching power Chinese Taipei past China in extras

Yu-Suan Feng’s 10-strikeout relief performance and a 2-RBI triple by Chi-Yun Lin in the eighth frame led Chinese Taipei to win over China, 3-2, in eight innings of play.

China scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first frame. Xiaomin Lu singled to right field; advanced on a bunt and stole third base. From there, scored on a fly ball to center field by Yuan Wang.

Chinese Taipei had great opportunities early in the game but could not capitalize. They loaded the bases in the first and second innings, but couldn’t score. Chinese Taipei tied the game in the top of the third Jia-Ling Yu hit an RBI single to center field to plate An-Hsin Chen, who had reached on a defensive error.

In the top of the eight, with a runner on second base, Chinese Taipei advanced the runner on a soft grounder to first base. And then Chia-Hsuan Lin hit a strong line drive to second base, that was gloved by Murong Lyu for the second out of the inning. Then Jia-Ling Yu walked and Chi-Yun Lin hit an opposite-field 2-RBI triple to give Chinese Taipei the first lead of the game.

In the bottom of the extra-inning, China made it a one-run game with an RBI single by Yuhan Shi, who advanced to second on a grounder. With two outs, Jiayi Chue hit to second base, Jia-Ling Yu couldn’t control the ball and the assistance to first was late; in the same play, Shi tried to score from second base but was retired with an accurate throw to home plate to end the game.

Yu-Suan Feng came in in relief in the second inning for Chinese Taipei and pitched an extraordinary game to grab the win. She worked for 6.1 innings, with 10 strikeouts, 2 hits and 1 run in the eighth episode, on the tie-breaking rule.

With this win, Chinese Taipei finished fifth place with a 3-4 record in the Super Round, while China finished in the eighth position, with a 0-7 record.
