V WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup scheduled from 26 August to 4 September in Hermosillo, Mexico

The United States are the reigning U-15 World Champions after defeating hosts Panama in the final of the 2018 edition.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is pleased to announce that Hermosillo, Mexico, has been awarded the hosting rights of the V WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from 26 August to 4 September later this year.

One of the two Hermosillo stadiums for the event is Estadio Sonora, the same venue which saw the Venezuela Baseball National team beat Mexico in the final of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup in October last year and also the home of the Mexican Pacific League club Naranjeros de Hermosillo. The second stadium for the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup is still to be confirmed.

"After last year's successful WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup in Hermosillo and Ciudad Obregon, Mexico fans can look forward to welcoming more world class international baseball," WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said. "I would like to extend my appreciation to Mexican President and WBSC Global Ambassador Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Director General of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) Ana Guevara for making this possible."

With the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup taking place across August/September, it will be the start of a trifecta of three not-to-be-missed WBSC Baseball World Cups, with the U-18 and U-23 Baseball World Cups following in September and October.

The United States are the reigning U-15 World Champions after defeating hosts Panama in the final of the 2018 edition.

World No. 14 Czech Republic and No. 22 France have qualified for the 2022 edition so far. Teams from the Americas (5), Asia (2), Africa (1), Oceania (1), and a wild card are still to be determined.

The V U-15 Baseball World Cup was originally scheduled in 2020 but was not able to take place due to the COVID pandemic.

The WBSC (the International Baseball Federation [IBAF] at the time) previously held a U-16 (‘AA’) Baseball World Cup from 1989 to 2011.
