Finland set to open Women’s National Softball Team training camp

A total of 30 players will gather for the first time in Seinäjoki, Finland, aiming to build a team to compete at the Women’s Softball European Championship, a qualifier for the WBSC World Cup.

The Finnish Baseball and Softball Federation announced today its preliminary roster for the Finnish Women’s National Softball Team, leading off the federation's ambitious project to qualify for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where baseball and softball are expected to be played. The Finnish National Team invitees will partake in a two-day camp (26-27 February) in Seinäjoki.

The Finnish federation revealed its national team coaching staff earlier this month. U.S. coaches Michelle Gromacki, Connie Clark and Kirk Walker will lead the squad, joined by local coaches Pasi Niemelä, Juha Antikainen and Bailey Chalmers-Vuorensyrjä. The General Manager will be Jukka Marttala.

Finland will participate in the Women’s European Championship, to be held in Sant Boi, Spain, from 24-30 July. The Lady Bears will open the tournament in Group D, facing Ukraine, Slovakia and Turkey in a single round robin for one spot in the quarter-final groups. Israel and Spain, also part of Group D, are already qualified for the next stage (after a top-8 finish in the previous continental championship) and will play a game to define their final seed.

After this event, Finland will receive their first-ever ranking points to make their debut in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings.
