World No. 1 Japan and No. 2 USA's opening-round meeting at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 showcased 33 combined strikeouts and featured many eventual top draft picks of Major League Baseball (MLB) and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
The pitching showcase took place in Thunder Bay, Canada, and was hit by a rain delay.
Fumimaru Taura ( Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks - NPB) started for Japan, while USA countered with Ryan Weathers (San Diego Padres - MLB).
