Germany issues baseball, softball postage stamps to commemorate Olympic return at Tokyo 2020

This edition of the Olympic Games will feature 33 sports and over 339 medal events, with baseball and softball expected to be amongst biggest and most followed sports at Tokyo 2020.

The German Postal Service (Deutsche Post), in collaboration with the German Sport Foundation (Deutsche Sporthilfe), has published a series of stamps that celebrate various Olympic sports, including baseball and softball, both of which are set to make their return at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The stamps were designed by Thomas Serres.

The new “For Sport” stamp series is now available in the online shop and in selected Deutsche Post branches:

  • Baseball, Eur 80 cents (plus 40 cents surcharge)
  • Softball, Eur 95 cents (plus 45 cents surcharge)

Softball will have the honour of being the first sport played at Tokyo 2020, when Australia and Japan open the Games competition at Azuma Fukushima Baseball Stadium on Wednesday, 21 July, at 9:00 a.m. local time.

Baseball will have the honour of being one of Tokyo 2020's grand finales, with the gold medal game taking place at Yokohama Stadium on Saturday, 7 August, the eve of the Closing Ceremony.
