Great Britain sweeps Sweden in men’s softball friendly series

The Swedish Men’s National Softball Team also played against the U-23 British National Team and an All-Star Team from the national softball league.

World No. 22 Great Britain swept No. 29 Sweden in a three-game friendly series on the weekend of 28-29 May at the Farnham Park Baseball and Softball Complex, in the first international fastpitch softball games played in Great Britain since 2018. The event was sanctioned by the WBSC.

On Saturday evening, the Sweden and the Great Britain Senior Men’s Teams met for the first time, which resulted in an 11-2 British win. The two teams met again on Sunday morning with the exact same outcome: an 11-2 win for the host team in five innings. The final game was a 9-2, five-inning win for Great Britain.

The Swedish Men’s National Softball Team also played against the U-23 British National Team and an All Star Team of the national softball league.

The Swedes won the first game against the All-Star team by a score of 12-6, before dropping a game to the U-23 Great Britain National Team, 16-15.

GB Men’s Head Coach Colin Barrett said: “The series was important both to us and Sweden to find out where we are with our players and our game. I’m really happy with our progress – these games showed we have a solid foundation with a lot of good young players which can lead to bigger things to come.”

Individual awards were presented at the end of the final game on Sunday, with Great Britain’s Damon Brown winning the trophy as Best Pitcher in the Series and GB’s Josh Stanley winning the award as the Tournament MVP.
